Overview

Statwise, a pumped up version of the Pirate Brigantine, the Akuma is a lightly shielded but fast and powerful destroyer with a curious weapon layout. Sporting less anti-capital weaponry than other battleships but far more anti fighter weaponry also, it can fend off massed fighters better than most battleships. Quite a bit more expensive than comparable Commonwealth destroyers.

Background

Encyclopedia Entry

The recently-introduced Akuma destroyer, as its name suggests, is considered a demon among the innocent pilots trying to get safely to their destination. Little is known about the capabilities of this ship.

Physical Characteristics

The Akuma bears a passing resemblance to the Ryu, except with a longer fuselage with a small section connecting the bow to the large stern. It bears forward-facing spikes reminiscent of Teladi ships.

Combat

With 8 slots in its up/down turrets, the Akuma absolutely shreds fighters and corvettes. Its anti-capital broadsides are not lacking but its forward turret is, with only 4 guns, meaning it is least dangerous from the front - unlike others in its class. A loadout trick to further improve its fighter defence is the 'ionised flak' in its up/down mounts. With some flak weapons and some Ion Disruptors, it can extend the range of the IDs considerably, damaging enemy ships' shields constantly as it fires.

For players looking to board an Akuma, there is usually one on patrol in Senator's Badlands or Weaver's Tempest.

Suggested Roles

The Akuma is lightly shielded for a destroyer, but is second only to the Python for speed, and with more reliable anti-fighter defenses, it makes for an excellent raiding ship among destroyers.
